  • Discipline on the Rise
    Updated On: Apr 09, 2024

It is with great concern that we inform you of a disturbing trend we are seeing in 2024 for discipline.  The troubling aspect is not so much related to the magnitude of discipline assessed.  Rather, it is the sheer volume of members who are being served with investigation notices that we find most disturbing.  In the first two months of 2024 alone, we had 34 signalmen issued investigation notices.  It is early yet, and we are hopeful that trend can be reversed.  However, the fact we are currently on pace for a year with over 200 investigations for only the second time in a decade is alarming, to say the least.

Should you find yourself in such a situation, we implore you to contact your local chairman immediately.  Do not discuss the incident with anyone until you have contacted a BRS officer.  If you cannot immediately contact your designated representative, go to brsbnsfgc.org and select an officer from any local or the general committee to reach out to for guidance.  Timing in the early stages is a critical factor that has a major impact on the outcome in most discipline cases.
