Solidarity—a word us union members often use, sometimes without truly appreciating its full meaning. There is no greater example of solidarity than what the members of DTO local 243 have recently shown to a member in need. Many of us perceive solidarity as mutual support within a workgroup, most often as it relates to a work-related issue. But our members on the DTO clearly understand that any sustainable solidarity is deeply rooted in a genuine concern for every member’s personal well-being— which starts at home with our families.
As parents, our worst common fear is to wake up one day to the realization one of our children is facing a life altering medical condition. We have all had nightmares about it. That nightmare recently became reality for a beloved member of local 243, and the members of that local rallied around him in an overwhelming show of solidarity. From offering to help around the house, to financial assistance, kind words, well-wishes, thoughts and prayers, the local truly came together in a demonstration of solidarity we can all learn from and be proud of.
While the road ahead is uncertain for this member’s son, it will certainly be made easier for the family knowing members of local 243, and the entire BRS for that matter, are there to offer any support we can possibly provide.
